About SLE

The Shocker Leadership Experience (SLE) is a 5-day, 4-night overnight experience designed for novice leaders looking to discover their leadership potential! Over 50 student attend and are each placed in a small group (hive) led by a faculty/staff and student leader. Students attend presentations, participate in team activities, and translate their knowledge through small group discussions.

SLE is free to students and includes transportation, meals, lodging, and a commemorative t-shirt.

Mission

To educate and inspire students to become multidimensional leaders who strategically develop positive relationships and enact change in the groups they serve in their community and around the world.

Learning Objectives

  1. Enhance the understanding and conceptualization of leadership as a process.
  2. Identify personal values and natural talents in relation to leadership practice, through self-awareness and reflection.
  3. Understand the impact that leadership can have on relationships/teams when practiced with compassion and authenticity.
  4. Identify and develop an other-oriented purpose with tangible action items toward living a more purposeful life through leadership.

Eligibility

  • Current degree-bound Wichita State student
  • Must be in good academic and conduct standing
  • Spring/Summer 2025 graduates not eligible

Timeline

  • Deadline to Apply: Wednesday, April 23 by midnight.
  • Notifications Made by Friday, April 25
  • Selected Individuals will attend a participant meeting on one of the two dates
