Megan Bascom
Megan Bascom is a choreographer, performer, dance educator, and somatic practitioner.
Her work is highly collaborative, relationship-driven, and dedicated to engaging with
the varied nuances of human interaction. Megan鈥檚 choreographic works have been presented
and supported nationally and internationally, including Triskelion Arts (NY), Gowanus
Arts + Production (NY), Center for Performance Research (NY), Dixon Place (NY), Manhattan
Movement and Arts Center (NY), Dance New Amsterdam (NY), The Dance Complex (MA), Ohio
University (OH), Dance Alive National Ballet (FL), the University of Michigan (MI),
Asheville Fringe Arts Festival (NC), Artus Studio (Budapest, Hungary), and Ankara
State Conservatory/ Hacettepe University (Ankara, Turkey). She was awarded the Florida
Dance Festival Artist in Residence 2012 (FL), received the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation
Space Subsidy at Triskelion Arts 2012-2017 (NY), and the Meta Weiser Performing Arts
EXCELerator Grant through the University of Michigan in 2018.
As an independent artist and educator, Megan has worked on faculty at the University of Michigan, teaching Composition, Partnering, Modern techniques, and Pilates for Dancers. As well as at Hillsdale College, teaching all levels of Modern and working with the Tower Dancers student company. Additional teaching credits include Hacettepe University/Ankara State Conservatory (Ankara, Turkey), 脟谋plak Ayaklar Kumpanyas谋 (Istanbul, Turkey), the New Tunisian Dance Ballet (Tunis, Tunisia), The Dance Complex (MA), Pofahl Studio/Dance Alive National Ballet (FL), Le Danse Cit茅 (Morocco), Dance Exchange (DC), Barnard College, 100 Grand Dance, and Gibney Dance Center (NY).
As a performer, she has had the pleasure of working with Michael Figueroa, Jody Oberfelder
Projects, The Median Movement, Kendra Portier, white road Dance Media, Tara Burns
Dance, Jeanne Travers, Michael Foley, Danny Buraczeski, and Moving Current Dance Collective,
among others. Megan received a BA with Honors in Dance Studies, focusing on Dance
Injury Prevention, from the University of South Florida and an MFA from the University
of Michigan. She is certified in Pilates through the Kane School for Core Integration
and has been teaching to a comprehensive clientele since 2008. In addition to her
artistic pursuits, Megan assisted in co-authoring Up Down, Move Around: Active Learning for Preschoolers with Deborah Kayton Michals, published by Gryphon House in 2013.
