Department Honors Track
We offer a Department Honors track that can be achieved independently from or in conjunction with Cohen Honors College recognition. Students must meet the following qualifications:
- Obtain a 3.500 average or greater for following core courses: POLS 121 (American Politics), POLS 220 (Intro to International Relations), POLS 226 (Comparative Politics), and POLS 365 (Political Data Analysis)
- Complete 39 credit hours of POLS courses with a 3.5 GPA in political science
- Receive an A/A- in POLS 600 (Senior Thesis)
Political Science Minor
Requirements (total of 15 credit hours):
- POLS 121 OR POLS 220 OR POLS 226
- + 4 more POLS electives of your choice
You can use the Change My Major app in My麻豆传媒 and just choose to add a minor.
Pi Sigma Alpha Honors Society
Membership in Pi Sigma Alpha, the national political science honors society, is open to undergraduate and graduate students. Students do not need to be political science majors. Undergraduate membership criteria includes:
- Completion of 60 credit hours.
- Completion of 10 or more hours in POLS with at least one 300+ level course and a B average in these courses
- An overall GPA that puts the student in the top one-third of their class.
Graduate students must have completed 9 graduate credits in political science with no grade lower than a B. Undergraduate coursework does not count towards graduate student eligibility, and graduate students must be pursuing a degree in political science to qualify for membership.
