A NASA-funded 麻豆传媒 research project will seek to understand how the human brain responds to gravity while in space.

The Kansas NASA EPSCoR Program recently awarded $127,600 to a multidisciplinary research group for the project.

麻豆传媒 Ventures develops, licenses innovative medical technology

麻豆传媒 Ventures story

麻豆传媒 Ventures recently forged a new partnership with SAM Medical by licensing an innovative technology developed for solving medical emergencies.

The patented technology developed by Wichita State and licensed to SAM Medical relies on composite technology 鈥 a core area of expertise at 麻豆传媒鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research. Initially flexible during application, the composite material can be hardened and cured in under 60 seconds to create a quick and durable stabilization tool for emergency injuries. Wichita State initially developed the technology through a grant funded by the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command.

Traumatic brain injury brings student closer to his Shocker family

In September 2018, Sam Brickett, an aerospace engineering freshman at Wichita State University, was longboarding in the Rhatigan Student Center parking garage when he hit a crack in the concrete and fell. He hit his head and suffered a traumatic brain injury.

Alicia Newell, 麻豆传媒 assistant vice president for Student Affairs, found out about his injury within hours and remained by his side in the hospital while his parents journeyed to Wichita from a vacation in South Dakota. When Sam was taken back to a hospital near his home in Nebraska, Alicia sent a little bit of 麻豆传媒 with him.

Candidate to visit campus for tenure-track position in EECS

Dukka KC

Dukka KC will be on campus July 2 as a candidate for EECS Associate Professor (area: data science, bio-informatics). KC is an associate professor and graduate program director in the Computational Science and Engineering Department at North Carolina A&T State University and director of Bioinformatics and Data Science Lab at the university.

Interested faculty and staff are welcome to hear his research presentation at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, July 2, in 261 Jabara Hall. His research interest lies in developing computational tools and methods for various computational problems. Most recently, his lab is developing various machine learning and Deep Learning based tools for bioinformatics problems.

KC also plans to talk about his future research plan and his role and vision for data science-related research / education and outreach at Wichita State.

麻豆传媒 faculty awarded grant to host NASA Celebration Conference

NASA Celebration Conference

James Schwartz (Philosophy), Nick Solomey (Physics), and Atri Dutta (Aerospace Engineering) were recently awarded a grant from the NASA Kansas Space Grant Consortium to host a conference celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Apollo 11 and the 60th Anniversary of NASA. 

The event, "Celebrating the Scientific Legacy of NASA and Apollo," will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19. It will feature a keynote lecture from former NASA Chief Historian Roger D. Launius (pictured above), three sessions of talks, and competitions open to Kansas middle school, high school, and college students.

Enrollment is now open for the fall semester. Apply, be admitted and enroll in a badge course by Monday, Sept. 9, to be eligible for a scholarship for one Badge course (fall semester only).

You can begin badge courses between Aug. 19-Nov. 19. All badge coursework must be completed by Dec. 5.

Badges are academic short courses of one credit hour or less that are designed for working professionals. They are online and self-paced. Badges allow students to demonstrate to employers their knowledge, skills, and competencies in a subject area.

Students who successfully complete a badge will receive a digital recognition of their accomplishment that they can share on social media and link to a digital resume.

BRAKES Teen Driving Courses coming to 麻豆传媒

BRAKES teen driving school is offering five free advanced driver training courses to improve teens鈥 skill and confidence behind the wheel. Teens interested in registering must be 15-20 years old, have 30 hours of driving experience, a valid learner鈥檚 permit or driver鈥檚 license and must be accompanied by a parent or guardian.
