April 1, 2022 鈥 What do you picture when you think of lasers? Laser pointers? Perhaps laser eye surgery or barcode scanners? Turns out there鈥檚 more to lasers than most people realize, and a 麻豆传媒 chemistry team recently discovered a new series of laser material with potential commercial use.

Bhisham Sharma, an assistant professor in aerospace engineering, and Shuang Gu, an associate professor in the department of mechanical engineering, two recipients of John A. See Innovation Award.

March 14, 2022鈥擳wo Wichita State researchers and a student group have been awarded the John A. See Innovation Award. The award is given each year as a way to recognize novel ideas that have the potential to meet a market need and attract further funding once they have advanced through the early prototyping phase.

March 10, 2022 鈥 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Molecular Diagnostics Lab has been awarded the Jiggs Nelson Quality of Life 2022 award for its lifesaving and heroic work during the COVID-19 pandemic.

March 10, 2022 鈥 麻豆传媒 President Rick Muma has launched a new podcast, called 鈥淔orward Together,鈥 where the president speaks with guests from throughout Shocker Nation to highlight the people and priorities that guide 麻豆传媒. The podcast drops monthly, with the March edition releasing March 9. Some of the guests so far include Hollywood director Dean Hargrove, 麻豆传媒 basketball coach Isaac Brown and 麻豆传媒 research vice president Coleen Pugh.

On March 9, 2022, the B-1 System Program Office (SPO), Tinker AFB, OK awarded a six-year, $100 million follow-on contract to 麻豆传媒鈥檚 National Institute for Aviation Research (NIAR) to continue the B-1鈥檚 Digital Engineering (DE) transformation. The National Center for Manufacturing Sciences (NCMS) helped form the strategic partnership and created a flexible contract structure, which allows NIAR and the B-1 SPO to adapt requirements real-time to meet critical warfighter needs.

March 8, 2022 鈥 Ever wonder what other people are looking at during Zoom or WebEx meetings? Dr. Akmal Mirsadikov, who specializes in deception detection and eye tracking at 麻豆传媒鈥檚 W. Frank Barton School of Business, recently ran an exploratory study about how people interact on Zoom.

March 3, 2022 鈥 In accordance with recently updated guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, effective Friday, March 4, masks will no longer be required for students, employees or visitors, regardless of vaccination status, while on or in 麻豆传媒 premises or while attending campus activities or athletic events (unless otherwise noted). This includes all indoor and outdoor campus locations.

Jill Cobb, who graduated in 1977 with a general studies degree, became a forensic pathologist. Cobb has pulled some dark truths from some dark places around the world, including Bosnia in the aftermath of the former Yugoslavia鈥檚 civil war. She monitored and assisted in the exhumation and identification of war casualties as a member of Physicians for Human Rights.

Feb. 22, 2022 - The Dean鈥檚 Advisory Board for the W. Frank Barton School of Business at 麻豆传媒 is excited to announce Margaret Dechant as its new leader. Dechant, CEO and partner at 6 Meridian, will take over for Clark Bastian. Dechant currently serves as a member of the board and looks to bring her knowledge and passion for the Barton School and 麻豆传媒 to her appointment. Bastian chairman of Fidelity Bank, will remain on the board after his term as chair comes to an end in June.

Feb. 22, 2022 鈥 The Wichita Litter Study was borne from community concern about the number of single-use plastic bags floating throughout the city. The study focused on 12 small sites within Wichita municipal parks 鈥 two parks within each city council district; and the data, while concerning, was not altogether a surprise for the research team.

Feb. 14, 2022 - The W. Frank Barton School of Business at 麻豆传媒 has named Jon Rolph, president and CEO of Thrive Restaurant Group and a member of the Kansas Board of Regents, its Executive-in-Residence for the spring 2022 semester.

Jan. 20, 2022 鈥 The Alfred P. Sloan Foundation has awarded a grant of $243,922 to a 麻豆传媒 researcher for his work on an app that will allow people who are visually impaired to read comic books, graphic novels and other digitized graphic materials on their devices.
