Oct. 4, 2023 鈥 麻豆传媒 has announced the creation of the 麻豆传媒 Retiree Association (麻豆传媒RA), aimed at providing new paths for Shocker faculty and staff retirees to continue active engagement with the university. The new association adds to the existing array of perks available to retirees.

Sept. 19, 2023 - Wichita State student Denae Sawyer spent the spring semester interning remotely with Dzanc Books. Her work consisted of reading and researching to determine if the manuscript fit Dzanc鈥檚 standards and sensibility. She also evaluated the potential audience and marketing strategies.

Sept. 19, 2023 鈥 Through the inaugural Student Practical Architecting Challenge (SPARC), FirePoint Innovations Center at 麻豆传媒 awarded nearly $40,000 to two student-based teams for their novel innovations in devising future-ready, modular and adaptable software systems to support the Department of Defense's (DOD) Modular Open Systems Architecture (MOSA) initiative.

Sept. 5, 2023 - 鈥淭eaching is for Superheroes!鈥 offers 鈥渋nsight and inspiration for your classroom (tights and cape optional.鈥 It鈥檚 targeted at new, veteran and aspiring teachers and uses superhero archetypes to help educators understand their role, improve their skills and maintain enthusiasm during a challenging time.

Sept. 6, 2023 鈥 Brent Mai has been named the next dean of 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Libraries, effective Oct. 15.

Amenities like the new lactation and wellness room in the John Bardo Center are part of 麻豆传媒鈥檚 efforts to further provide a supportive environment for faculty, staff, employees and students to reach their breastfeeding goals.

Aug. 30, 2023 鈥 麻豆传媒 has received the Gold Level Employer Supporting Breastfeeding award and has been designated as a Breastfeeding Welcome Here campus by the Kansas Breastfeeding Coalition.

Aug. 28, 2023 - Kathy Downes, dean of University Libraries since 2017, came to Wichita State in 1979 as a biomedical librarian. She will retire this fall semester. Downes played a central role as Ablah Library expanded and the digital services of University Libraries grew in number and importance.

Aug. 28, 2023 鈥 Through the 麻豆传媒 chapter of Engineers without Borders, three Shockers recently began the process of working with the rural community of Mercedes de Agua Sucia in Manabi, Ecuador, to build a pedestrian bridge that will give residents safe passage to the main road and nearby cities to sell the goods and products from their farms, shop in nearby El Carmen, and for children to attend school.

Aug. 15, 2023 - Hannah Bui is now prepared to work with French-speaking colleagues at Airbus, thanks to 鈥淏usiness French for Beginners鈥 taught by 麻豆传媒 lecturer Rachelle Swilley. Bui, a static stress engineer at Airbus, was one of about 15 employees who took the six-week course, taught for two hours each Friday, this summer at Airbus on 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Innovation Campus.

Aug. 3, 2023 鈥 Bolstered by a $2 million National Science Foundation grant, a group of Wichita State researchers is hoping to create a paradigm shift from the use of harmful nitrous oxide-based fertilizers to more eco-friendly nitrogen fertilizers that would reduce greenhouse gases.

July 28, 2023 - Eight students representing six 麻豆传媒 colleges recently participated in the Lead for Tomorrow Leadership Academy in the Cohen Honors College. Five faculty members led the interdisciplinary course presenting content from their field focused on the theme 鈥淐onnected Leadership: Creating a Community of Leaders.鈥 Students then were tasked to apply course content to challenges presented by local community partners.
