Overview

Mrs. Skursky began her training at the age of three in studios all over the United States. Her technical dancing started in 1995 with Barbara Pontecorvo, who not only ran the most prestigious ballet studios in Dayton, Ohio, but also had the most successful pre-professional company, Gem City Ballet, in the area. This is where Heidi-Erin discovered her absolute love and passion for the arts. Through Gem City Ballet and Barbara, Mrs Skursky learned many forms of dance and also was encouraged to assist teaching, and choreograph her own dances. Through her years she had the pleasure to dance in summer programs all over the states; only a select few of these were: RDA鈥檚 Craft for Choreography, Boston Ballet, Ballet Chicago, and Alvin Ailey where she was advised by Judith Jamison. From a young age there were many teachers who influenced her as a dancer and a potential teacher herself, but she was truly blessed to be taught by these select few: Laura Alonzo, Merrill Ashley, Peter Merz, and  Patricia Blair, Shawn Stevens.
Mrs. Skursky is not only a professional ballet dancer, but also a teacher of dance. She first assisted teaching at the age of fourteen with Babara Pontecorvo in Dayton, Ohio. It was exhilarating and she found she loved it. She was so inspired by the work her own teachers were doing that she created a program for young dancers to train and perform with the assistance of her church and school. Although she was an Honor student, in many AP classes and taking joint college classes while completing her junior and senior year of highschool this did not stop her from running the program for these children who would have never been given the chance to dance if not for her. This was her first true exposure to running her own program.
At the start of the fall semester in 2005 Mrs. Skursky journeyed to Friends University in Kansas where she trained with Stan and Sharon Rogers. They both guided her through pedagogy as she knew she wanted to dance and teach as her profession. Once in college, she taught ballet, jazz, modern and lyrical to the community, and began widening her exposure by teaching ballroom. It was an exciting four years of teaching, dancing and choreography.
After graduation in 2009, where she gained her BFA in Ballet and Drama, she was offered a teaching position with Ballet San Antonio Academy, Artemov Gymnastics and The Element Dance Studio in San Antonio, Texas. Not only was she dancing professionally with Ballet San Antonio, she was grateful for the chance to teach adult ballet, and learn how to teach the young Pre-Primary levels at BSAA. The gymnastics program was a different use of her skills as the gymnasts needed ballet for their floor routines. At the Element Dance Studio, Mrs Skursky was asked to design the Ballet and Pointe Programs from scratch. She found this to be an excellent use of her BFA!
It was in 2012 that Mrs Skursky was hired to dance for the Corpus Christi Ballet and also teach for Munro Ballet Studios, which was the Academy of the Corpus Christi Ballet. She spent many years teaching many levels and styles to the students of Corpus. It was always thrilling when Texas A&M Corpus Christi invited her to teach master classes while she lived there. She also took her passion for health and wellness to the next step by becoming a Personal Trainer through NCCPT. In this time of her life she explored choreography more rigorously and had the pleasure to create many of her own ballets, of which went to Regional Dance America.
Starting in 2016 she began teaching and dancing in Pensacola, she moved to be with her husband who is a Naval Helicopter Pilot. Pensacola, Florida was a shortstop in her career, but she found a way to use her skills as a professional ballet dancer and teacher. She even designed a program for powerlifters so they could achieve more mobility.
After six months in Pensacola she was overjoyed to move to Jacksonville, Florida to be a part of The Florida Ballet under Linda Jenkins and Roberto Forleo. Here she achieved ABT National Training Curriculum certification in levels Pre-Primary to Level 3 and became an Affiliate Teacher. For years in Jacksonville, Florida Mrs Skursky taught, assisted studios with their pre-professional programs, was a guest artist and  choreographed her own ballets including 鈥淔lowers鈥 in the Nutcracker. She also had the joy to become a mother of two beautiful children.
At the beginning of 2021 Mrs. Skursky moved with her husband to Reno, Nevada where she continued dancing with the Sierra Nevada Ballet, for several seasons. While in Nevada she was invited to teach many Master Classes, train the gymnasts at TopGun Gymnastics and teach students through zoom classes. She also had the pleasure to speak for many dancer educational seminars and advise young dancers on their careers. With a company called NOVA she assisted them with the creation of Athletic Training for Dancers and helped dancers around the world with their cross training.
By 2023 she and her family were being relocated again, but this time the adventure took them back to Wichita, Kansas. Mrs. Skursky is very excited to return to Wichita with a wealth of knowledge, of which the community needs! She will be teaching for Ballet Wichita Academy, Dancing With Ballet WIchita as the First Soloist and guesting around the Wichita area. She is not only a teacher with vast knowledge and experience, but will also be overseeing the training of the teachers at the Academy to help set Ballet Wichita a part.
