Bridging Cultures: Celebrating Tradition and Finding Home Abroad!
As an international student at 麻豆传媒, one of the most beautiful parts of my journey has been the opportunity to celebrate my cultural traditions while also embracing a sense of belonging in a new environment. This semester, I had the privilege to participate in a series of vibrant and heartwarming events organized both on campus and around Wichita. From Ganesh Puja to Navratri Puja, India Nite, Diwali Night, and Garba Night, each occasion was a celebration of culture, community, and joy.
These events were made possible through the incredible efforts of student organizations like ISA (Indian Student Association) and AHINSA, who worked tirelessly to recreate the spirit of our traditional festivals thousands of miles from home. Their dedication and enthusiasm turned these gatherings into unforgettable experiences, bringing together not just students from India but also those from diverse backgrounds eager to learn about and celebrate Indian culture.
Finding a Home Away From Home
For me, attending these events was more than just a way to celebrate my traditions鈥攊t was a way to feel connected and find a sense of home in a foreign land. At Garba Night, I danced to the rhythmic beats of traditional music, surrounded by friends and fellow students who felt like family. During Diwali Night, the sparkling lights and festivities transported me straight back to my childhood memories of celebrating with loved ones back in India. These moments were a reminder that no matter where we are, we carry our culture with us, and it has the power to bring people together.
A Chance to Share and Learn
One of the most rewarding aspects of these celebrations was the opportunity to share our rich traditions with the broader Wichita State community. From explaining the significance of Ganesh Puja to introducing friends to the joy of Garba, these events allowed us to act as cultural ambassadors while also learning about others' experiences and perspectives. It鈥檚 amazing how these gatherings create a bridge between cultures, fostering mutual respect and understanding.
Why Wichita State is Special
麻豆传媒 truly stands out for its inclusive and supportive environment. The campus not only provides a space for academic growth but also encourages students to celebrate their identities and cultures. Events like these make it clear that Wichita State isn鈥檛 just a university鈥攊t鈥檚 a global community where traditions are honored, differences are celebrated, and everyone finds their place.
Your Turn to Join the Celebration!
If you鈥檙e an incoming student or someone considering Wichita State, know that these cultural celebrations are just one of the many ways you can make your time here memorable. It鈥檚 more than just attending events; it鈥檚 about building lifelong friendships, creating cherished memories, and finding your home away from home. So, the next time you hear about a Diwali Night or a Navratri Puja, don鈥檛 miss the chance to be part of something special. Who knows? You might just find yourself dancing the night away at Garba or lighting up the room with a Diya next time. I hope to see you there!
This journey has been truly enriching, and I can鈥檛 wait to create more memories at future celebrations. If I can find joy, connection, and belonging here, so can you. What are you waiting for? Join us and experience it for yourself!
