Fall 2024 Wichita State's New Building

If you didn鈥檛 know as of Fall 2024 Wichita State has a new Shocker Success Center!!! What is the Shocker Success Center you might ask? Allow me to enlighten you on our newly beloved student building!!
As stated, the Shocker Success Center 鈥渂rings together dozens of student support functions in a single, welcoming space conveniently located in the heart of campus鈥. As we all know, our lovely campus has many amazing resources, but they weren鈥檛 all located in the same vicinity. To make student resources more accessible than ever we decided to bring most of the student support to the heart of campus in the same building! Talking about convenience, it feels like a convenience store for success. This wonderful glass facade building has three floors and a lower level. We will explore all the services provided on each floor including my favorite(lower level).
First Floor:
- A great place to start our building tour is stopping by the OneStop Student Services. This service is the first service you will see when entering the building. If you are not sure where to go, this is best the place to start. OneStop advisors can assist you with building semester schedules, setting up degree plans, reviewing financial aid, understanding bills, and setting up payment plans. There are many processes and steps required when going through college and OneStop is there to help you navigate through your college journey.
- Student Accommodations and Testing鉁嶏笍 (LOCATION: Suite 118) The Office of Student Accommodations & Testing sets the standards and determines the reasonable accommodations that may meet the needs of students with disabilities while coordinating various testing and proctored examination services to all Shockers. OSAT is dedicated to supporting students to allow them to perform at their highest academic potential.
Second Floor:
- Math Lab 鉁栵笍鉃(LOCATION: Suite 207) If you want to be one of the few students who love mathematics because you understand it and are the best of friends, you should stop by the math lab. The Math Lab is a free tutoring service for Wichita State students. The lab is staffed by graduate students and exceptional undergraduate students studying mathematics or mathematics-related disciplines. In addition, numerous mathematics faculty members volunteer time in the lab.
- Physics Help Desk馃鈥嶐煍 (LOCATION: Suite 207) Did you know if the Sun were made of bananas, it would be just as hot? If you want to have a better grasp of physics you should stop by The Physics Help Room. It offers free, walk-in tutoring for introductory physics courses to students enrolled in any degree program. Staffed by undergraduate physics majors, GTA鈥檚, and volunteer faculty, we are committed to your success with homework help, exam prep, and cool physics demos.
- Writing Center鉁嶏笍 (LOCATION: Suite 207) The 麻豆传媒 Writing Center is a writing resource available to students who need assistance at all stages of writing 鈥 including brainstorming, topic development, revisions, development of critical reading leading to more enhanced writing, and grammatical exercises. Located inside the Shocker Learning Center.
- Student Success 馃檶馃従(LOCATION: Suite 218) The goal of the Office of Student Success is to help students transition to Shocker life and develop skills and processes to help them achieve their personal and academic goals. Student Success comprises three areas: First-Year Programs (orientation and transition programs, Clash of the Colleges, Syllabus Party); Academic Success Programs (tutoring and supplemental instruction); and Success Coaching.
- TRIO Disability Support Services馃摎 (LOCATION: Suite 223) TRIO Disability Support Services assists first-generation and limited-income undergraduate students who have learning, physical, and psychological disabilities. Among the services provided are academic support and tutoring, access to adaptive computer equipment, and other services that enable our students to persist and graduate from Wichita State University.
Third Floor:
- Adult Learning馃摀(LOCATION: Suite 302) Adult Learning is committed to supporting adult learners, ensuring that they have access to the resources and support they need to succeed.
- Student Outreach and Support (SOS) (LOCATION: Suite 304) The Office of Student Outreach and (SOS) Support provides case management and basic needs to facilitate outreach, intervention, and follow-up care for students experiencing crisis or distress that impacts their social, personal, or academic well-being. SOS is dedicated to being a resource for students by fostering an environment centered on advocacy, offering holistic support, and building intentional connections to campus and community resources.
- TRIO Student Support Services 馃摎(LOCATION: Suite 307) TRIO Student Support Services provides academic support services that help first-generation, limited-income students, and students with disabilities to persist and graduate from college.
- Tech Help Desk 馃捇(LOCATION: Suite 320) The Tech Help office is designed to meet the growing tech needs of students. Staff will help students with diagnostics and troubleshooting on personal devices, issues with internet access, software and app training, email issues, learning remotely, as well as support for Blackboard and other university applications. Additionally, Tech Help provides loaner Chromebooks for students.
- Hispanic-Serving Initiatives (LOCATION: Suite 309) The Office of Hispanic-Serving Initiatives leads the way in helping Hispanic students succeed through academic support, applied learning, First-Year Experience programs, and advising.
- Military and Veterans Services (LOCATION: Suite 318) The Military and Veterans Services office assists military members, veterans, and their dependents in understanding, applying for, and utilizing their education benefits. This office is responsible for certifying the enrollment and changes in enrollment of eligible students to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Regional Office in St. Louis.
Lower Level:
- International Education 馃實(LOCATION: Suite 003) The Office of International Education manages the recruitment and admission of international undergraduates and intensive English students, as well as supporting international students once they鈥檙e on campus. The office also manages the regulatory concerns for the F1 and J1 student populations.
- Shocker Support Locker 馃嵄(LOCATION: Suite 001) The Shocker Support Locker seeks to alleviate food insecurity on campus and contribute to the overall health and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff by providing a variety of nutritional and functional resources to Shockers at no cost.
- Career Closet 馃憯(LOCATION: Suite 001) The Career Closet helps you feel confident when you go in for that big interview. Find professional clothing to help you make a great impression on potential employers. Items available may include suits, dress pants, professional shirts or blouses, professional skirts, belts, neckties, shoes, cuff links, and tie clips.
- Civil Rights, Title IX & ADA Compliance (CTAC) (LOCATION: Suite 017) The Office of Civil Rights, Title IX & ADA Compliance (CTAC) is committed to preventing and eliminating discrimination or harassment based on race, color, national origin, pregnancy, sex, age, disability, creed, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, veteran status, political affiliation or political philosophy.
