In addition, papers were collected from two 300-level courses which were designed to assess Goal 2, outcome 3. A rubric will be developed for this outcome and an assessment made. In the 2008-2009 academic year, the Department of Sociology will use the rubrics to decide about the outcomes for Goal 1, outcomes 1 and 2; and Goal 2, outcome 3. Goals/Outcomes Data were collected for Goal 2, outcome 3 in this Spring, 2008 semester from two of our 300 level classes, SOC330, Social Inequality, and SOC315, Marriage and Families. A rubric for evaluation purposes will be created and the papers scored based whether the students have demonstrated competencies in discussing the consequences of structural issues. Goal 3, outcome 4 data from Cooperative Education was collected in the Fall, 2007 and analyzed. When comparing the sociology students to the total LAS students evaluated on the 30 criteria completed by work supervisors, the sociology students had mean scores that were higher on 27 items, the same on 2 items, and lower on 1 item. This comparison, even with six employers evaluating the sociology students (A25A, traditional majors only), the sociology students present a consistent pattern of higher evaluations across the past few years. It is apparent that the sociology majors are able to compete effectively for internships. All of the sociology students, 100 percent, met the standard for internship performance. Students who report that they were able to acquire a job related to their major came from another survey done by Cooperative Education and mailed to recent graduates. In recent mailings with no incentive to respond, the number of departmental majors is so small no analysis was done at that level. If sociology is to continue to measure this outcome other data will need to be collected and/or we need to change our Assessment Plan and develop another outcome. This year 5 of 5 reported that they had jobs directly related to their major; 100% met the standard. See Appendix A for the relevant data. Sociology Major Exit Survey The Sociology Department has instituted an exit survey for our undergraduate majors near the end of their undergraduate work (see Appendix B). We have a data base with an N of 42 students at this time. These data center on the students evaluation of different dimensions of the sociology curriculum/program and whether they believe that there is career relevance to the major. As sociology continues to evaluate these data, we may find a few variables that will lead us to amend our Assessment Plan as it relates to employment. ers r s t - / I 4KkoHIɸɴɬɴhZrh{fh;h9 hCp>*hVhrh4UhCphnh>h.Bh 6>* h-)h 6 h h h h 6>*h-)h 6>*h 6(*4cdes s t 5Igd 6$a$gd 6,1h/ =!"#$% b 666666666vvvvvvvvv666666>6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666hH6666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666666662 0@P`p2( 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p 0@P`p8XV~PJ_HmH nH sH tH D`D 6NormalCJPJ_HaJmH sH tH DA D Default Paragraph FontRiR 0 Table Normal4 l4a (k ( 0No List PK![Content_Types].xmlj0Eжr(΢Iw},-j4 wP-t#bΙ{UTU^hd}㨫)*1P' ^W0)T9<l#$yi};~@(Hu* Dנz/0ǰ $ X3aZ,D0j~3߶b~i>3\`?/[G\!-Rk.sԻ..a濭?PK!֧6 _rels/.relsj0 }Q%v/C/}(h"O = C?hv=Ʌ%[xp{۵_Pѣ<1H0ORBdJE4b$q_6LR7`0̞O,En7Lib/SeеPK!kytheme/theme/themeManager.xml M @}w7c(EbˮCAǠҟ7՛K Y, e.|,H,lxɴIsQ}#Ր ֵ+!,^$j=GW)E+& 8PK!Ptheme/theme/theme1.xmlYOo6w toc'vuر-MniP@I}úama[إ4:lЯGRX^6؊>$ !)O^rC$y@/yH*񄴽)޵߻UDb`}"qۋJחX^)I`nEp)liV[]1M<OP6r=zgbIguSebORD۫qu gZo~ٺlAplxpT0+[}`jzAV2Fi@qv֬5\|ʜ̭NleXdsjcs7f W+Ն7`g ȘJj|h(KD- dXiJ؇(x$( :;˹!
