Two years after the successful launch of 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Bachelor of Applied Arts (BAA) in Media Arts program, the university has created the new School of Digital Arts.

As nationwide demand for biomedical engineers continues to grow, 麻豆传媒 is moving forward with a plan to create a doctoral program that would help fill that need.
The new Ph.D. in biomedical engineering was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents Wednesday, Nov. 20.
The Ph.D. will be housed in the Biomedical Engineering Department. The program seeks to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the application of engineering principles and biomedical research with an emphasis on inter-disciplinary research.

Ulrich Museum hosts FUN series showcasing innovative research across campus
The Ulrich Museum of Art invites you to join us for PechaKucha style presentations of campuswide research today (Friday, Nov. 22) from 4-5 p.m. Presenters get seven minutes each to share their research projects. This program is an extension of the museum's "Solving for X" series, sharing research across campus with the community. Scheduled to present at the event are:

The 麻豆传媒 Office of Research is hosting a research workshop on applying to the National Science Foundation鈥檚 Research Traineeship (NRT) Program. Coleen Pugh, 麻豆传媒 Graduate School Dean and Associate Vice President for Research & Economic Development, will share information about this grant program, which supports graduate students. Pugh has more than 30 years of experience in the research field of Polymer Science, and has served on the NSF NRT panel.
Representatives from the College of Engineering Dean鈥檚 Office and the 麻豆传媒 Graduate School will be present to brainstorm and collaborate on ways to strengthen collaborative proposals to the NSF Research Traineeship Program. Any team that is interested in submitting a proposal to NSF NRT is welcome to attend this workshop and strategize around this specific NSF opportunity.

麻豆传媒-RIA Colloquium and faculty networking event
The 麻豆传媒 Regional Institute on Aging (RIA) is hosting a colloquium and networking event in conjunction with its recently released rfp. This opportunity is aimed at facilitating the formation of interdisciplinary teams of researchers interested in similar issues.

Connie Dorrell is retiring from the Registrar's Office
Connie Dorrell is retiring after more than 11 years of service in the Registrar's Office. One of Connie's various responsibilities is managing diploma distributions. Every semester, Connie looks forward to personally congratulating students as they pick up their diploma. Connie says "...it makes my day every single time I hand a student their diploma. I LOVE it! I will miss that the most."

A cracked sewer pipe has resulted in the Graduate School temporarily relocating to 113 Hubbard Hall. It鈥檚 likely the Graduate School will be in this temporary location until early-to-mid January.
Today's (Friday, Nov. 22) parking lot closures
There are several parking lot closures today (Friday, Nov. 22). Portions of lots 24 and 25 off of 17th Street and 35s, the green and yellow lot on the east side of the John Bardo Center, will be closed. In addition, all of lot 16s next to Duerksen Fine Arts Center will be closed for both the Wise Engineering Competition and the School of Business Clay Barton Endowed Scholarship event.

Prepare for certain parking lot closures three hours prior to game time tomorrow (Saturday, Nov. 23). Unauthorized vehicles must vacate the lots prior to the scheduled closure time in order to avoid receiving a parking citation.
Look at the map above to make alternative parking arrangements if necessary.
Arrive on campus earlier than usual. Buy yourself some time in case you need to park farther away from your desired destination than normal.
Dress for the weather in case you need to walk a little farther than usual, or need to wait a few minutes for a shuttle to take you to your desired destination.
Consider carpooling. Not only does this reduce our carbon footprint, but it also reduces traffic and parking congestion.
Take advantage of the many routes and inexpensive fares Wichita Transit has to offer.

麻豆传媒 Dance hosts 2019 Kansas Dance Festival
Greetings from 麻豆传媒 Dance and welcome to the Kansas Dance Festival 2019! The festival will light up Wilner Auditorium tonight (Friday, Nov. 22) and Saturday, Nov. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
Like a gathering of the tribes, dancers from around the region annually descend on the 麻豆传媒 campus to present original choreography from their university programs. They share the stage with us for an evening performance that is best described as eclectic, diverse and dynamic. These poet athletes reach deep inside themselves to breathe life into work they have rehearsed for months. It lives as you watch, and then it is gone. 麻豆传媒 Dance would like to thank the programs who are visiting for their contributions: Oklahoma University, University of Missouri/Kansas City, Friends University, Barton Community College and Regina Klenjoski Dance Company.
Tickets are range from $10-$15, and 麻豆传媒 students get in free with their university I.D.

Carbon footprint under scope as sustainability efforts continue
麻豆传媒 is in the middle of a six-part sustainability plan to develop and promote initiatives leading to a greater use of resources on campus. The initiatives revolve around facility improvements, new curriculum opportunities and overall student impact. The second goal of these efforts is to focus on reducing the carbon footprint on campus.

The following university update was shared at Thursday鈥檚 Weekly Briefing.
PRESIDENT-ELECT GOLDEN ANNOUNCES CONVERGENT SCIENCES INITIATIVE
President-elect Jay Golden, Provost Rick Muma and VP for Research and Economic Development John Tomblin are asking deans and faculty to undertake a new initiative: The President鈥檚 Convergent Sciences Initiative.
鈥淭hrough this initiative,鈥� they wrote in a letter to campus, 鈥渨e aim to empower our faculty to explore opportunities to bring together colleagues who span the disciplines and form convergent science research clusters to address some of our most pressing and opportunistic challenges.
鈥淲e want 麻豆传媒 to move to the forefront in developing a new generation of researchers and scholars to address the complex challenges and opportunities changing Kansas and the world. Gaining mastery of this knowledge will help make Kansas a leader in this new economy.鈥�
The initial themes are 1) Health Disparities and Health Delivery, 2) Digital Transformation and 3) Open 鈥� for faculty to self-identify.
The initiative will provide each cluster with annual seed funding and will prioritize new faculty hires over a span of multiple years to supplement the research cluster.
President Golden will work with political, industry and community leaders to discuss how investments in these projects can lead to new jobs and industry growth. Leaders will also work with the 麻豆传媒 Foundation to develop external individual, corporate and foundation partners to support this research vision and provide student support in the form of convergent sciences scholarships.
NETAPP POSSIBLE RELOCATION TO INNOVATION CAMPUS
On Monday, Robin Huber, vice president and general manager of NetApp E-Series and site manager of Wichita operations, told their employees that the company would like to move into a complex to be built in the next few years in the southeast quadrant of Innovation Campus, near 17th and Oliver.
麻豆传媒 and NetApp are beginning a process that will include working with city and county government, the Greater Wichita Partnership, the Kansas Board of Regents, NetApp employees and members of the campus community to refine the vision and gain support for the project.
Wichita State representatives have been talking for several months with NetApp鈥檚 leadership about the possibility of having their employees and facilities relocate to Innovation Campus, to work even more closely with 麻豆传媒 students, faculty and other researchers. NetApp, a world leading solutions provider in digital transformation, is already one of the largest employers of our students.
Details are still being worked out. NetApp has a lab on Innovation Campus, uses meeting rooms across campus and is looking forward to expanding its presence.
BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING Ph.D. PROGRAM APPROVED
A Ph.D. biomedical engineering was approved by the Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday.
The Ph.D. will be housed in the Biomedical Engineering Department. The program seeks to provide students with a fundamental understanding of the application of engineering principles to biomedical research with an emphasis on inter-disciplinary research.
The program takes advantage of Wichita State鈥檚 position as the state鈥檚 only major research institution in a metropolitan area, as well as numerous experiential learning collaborations in Wichita鈥檚 top employment industry sectors: manufacturing and health care.
麻豆传媒 CREATES SCHOOL OF DIGITAL ARTS
Two years after the successful launch of Wichita State鈥檚 Bachelor of Applied Arts (BAA) in Media Arts program, the university has created the new School of Digital Arts.
The school will be the fourth school within 麻豆传媒鈥檚 College of Fine Arts and will encompass the BAA program, which includes concentrations in animation, audio production, filmmaking, game design and collaborative design.
The School of Digital Arts was approved Wednesday by the Kansas Board of Regents.
This new addition to the College of Fine Arts comes on the heels of impressive growth
within the BAA program, which is housed in the state-of-the-art Shocker Studios production facility.
UPDATE FOR DRIVERS AND PEDESTRIANS
Drivers and pedestrians should be aware of the recent addition of a crosswalk on 17th Street at Yale. Also, the 麻豆传媒 Police Department and Facility Services are identifying locations on campus to place flashing yellow and red lights at crosswalks. They are solar-operated lights which can be moved to promote safe crossing of streets across campus.
HAPPY THANKSGIVING
The last day of classes before the Thanksgiving Recess is Tuesday, Nov. 26. While there are no classes, university offices are open on Wednesday, Nov. 27. The university is closed on Nov. 28-29.
Classes resume on Dec. 2.
Participants needed for audiology research
You are invited to participate in a research study of Digit-Pair Speech Recognition Thresholds in Adults with Hearing Loss. We hope to learn the validation and generalization of using digit recognition thresholds during hearing evaluations.
If you decide to participate, you will be scheduled for a hearing evaluation. Once criteria are determined, additional hearing testing will be conducted.
Testing is expected to last about 55 minutes.

Outdoor Adventures spring break ski trip registration now open!
Join Campus Recreation's Outdoor Adventures on a trip to beautiful Copper Mountain, located outside of Dillon, Colorado. We will have three full days on the slopes.
