New 麻豆传媒 president announcement and reception set for Thursday, Oct. 31
The Kansas Board of Regents has announced a meeting of the board at 2 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in the Rhatigan Student Center, Room 233 (Santa Fe Trail Room). The board plans to hold a public vote to name the next President of 麻豆传媒, with a reception following.
Everyone is invited to the announcement, but seating is limited. The announcement will also be streamed live at .
Following the announcement, there will be a reception on the 2nd floor of the RSC for the president-elect. All are welcome to attend.

Notices of Intent for limited NSF EPSCoR funding opportunity due to the 麻豆传媒 Office of Research by Friday, Nov. 8
Proposals are being accepted for the National Science Foundation EPSCoR Program.
Title: National Science Foundation (NSF) Established Program to Stimulate Competitive Research (EPSCoR) Research Infrastructure Improvement Program: Track-2 Focused EPSCoR Collaborations (RII Track-2 FEC).
Purpose: The FY2020 EPSCoR RII Track-2 FEC program provides funding for building inter-jurisdictional teams of EPSCoR investigators specifically focused on this single topic: 鈥淗arnessing the Data Revolution to solve problems of national importance.鈥� A minimum of two RII-eligible EPSCoR jurisdictions must collaborate on the proposal.
Amount:
- $1 million per year for up to four years (if there are two RII-eligible EPSCoR jurisdictions participating)
- $1.5 million per year for up to four years (if there are three or more RII-eligible EPSCoR jurisdictions participating)
Eligibility: 麻豆传媒 is allowed to submit only one proposal. 麻豆传媒鈥檚 proposal must be developed in conjunction with at least one other RII-eligible EPSCoR jurisdiction. See the solicitation for a list of eligible jurisdictions.
Deadlines:
- Notice of Intent: You MUST email proposals@wichita.edu by noon Friday, Nov. 8, if you are interested in submitting a proposal in response to this solicitation.
- Pre-Proposal: If an internal competition is needed, Pre-Proposals will be due to the 麻豆传媒 Office of Research no later than noon Monday, Nov. 18.
- NSF Letter of Intent: If your pre-proposal is selected by the 麻豆传媒 committee appointed by the AVP for Research to move forward, a formal letter of intent will be due to the National Science Foundation by Friday, Dec. 20.
- NSF Formal Proposal: The full RII Track-2 FEC proposal will be due to the National Science Foundation by Jan. 24, 2020. (The 麻豆传媒 Office of Research deadline for finalized proposal documents will be 9 a.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21.)

2020 benefits Open Enrollment is almost over! Log in to the Member Administration Portal at to make your elections by tomorrow (Thursday, Oct. 31).
All benefits-eligible state employees must make their 2020 elections by the deadline on Oct. 31. Employees enrolled in medical coverage who do not make a new election will be defaulted into medical Plan N with a use-it-or-lose-it HRA.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo meets with Wichita State business students
W. Frank Barton School of Business students recently discussed leadership, service to country and careers with Mike Pompeo, a former Wichita businessman, U.S. Representative and director of the CIA.
Pompeo also went to Charles Koch Arena and spoke with the Wichita State men鈥檚 basketball coaches and student-athletes. He took pictures on the court with members of the men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 teams.

Wichita State and BOLDplanning conduct successful business continuity exercise
Supporting the preparedness efforts of public and private sector organizations, including educational institutions nationwide, BOLDplanning was very pleased to lead a Business Continuity Planning (BCP) exercise at Wichita State on Oct. 11. 麻豆传媒 has been a BOLDplanning client for over five years, and this was the third such exercise to help the campus achieve its readiness goals.

Care Team update to campus community
As we approach the end of the semester and the added stress of finals season, the Care Team would like to remind everyone that we鈥檙e here to help. The campus community is the Team鈥檚 eyes and ears, and we hope you will all continue to let us know when you鈥檙e concerned about someone鈥檚 well-being.
The data shows that for the months of August and September, the number of Care cases reported is up 67% from the same time period last year. The most common presenting concern is anxiety, which may worsen as we approach the end of the semester.
- Some signs that someone is living with anxiety and may need some help:
- Avoidance and reluctance to participate
- Procrastination
- Visible distress
- Changes in sleep habits
- Changes in eating habits
- Psychosomatic issues (headaches, stomachaches, back, neck, and/or shoulder pain)
- Social isolation
- Stronger emotional responses than seem appropriate for the situation, including panic
- Feeling overwhelmed
- Maladaptive coping strategies (alcohol or other substance use, overuse of technology)
If you believe someone on campus is living with anxiety, here are some things you can do to help:
- Ask how they鈥檙e doing. Knowing someone cares can be very helpful for any kind of distress. It can also help you to learn more about the situation
- Express concern. It鈥檚 okay to tell someone you鈥檙e worried about them. It can be helpful to list specific areas of concern, such as an incident of visible distress, changes in behavior, or poor attendance.
- Talk resources. There are many resources available on campus, including Counseling and Prevention Services, Disability Services, and, of course, Care Team.
- Contact the Care Team. We can be reached at wichita.edu/care or 316-978-3149.
- If you鈥檙e concerned about a member of our campus community, please don鈥檛 hesitate to submit a concern. If you鈥檇 like to learn more about Care Team, our next training will be from 1:30-2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5. You can sign up in myTraining in my麻豆传媒.

麻豆传媒 Weekly Briefing to feature the Institute of Interdisciplinary Innovation at Wichita State
The 麻豆传媒 Weekly Briefing will begin at 10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 31, in the Marcus Welcome Center. The featured speaker will be Doug Stucky with the Institute of Interdisciplinary Innovation at Wichita State. Stucky will present information about the institute and how the department contributes to mission and vision of the university.
Andy McFayden, executive director, Strategic Communications, 麻豆传媒 Tech, will give the overall university update.
The briefing will be livestreamed and available later that day at 麻豆传媒 . There will be time for questions following the briefing.
Military and veterans celebration - register for free lunch!

Shocker Printing will be closed briefly for training
Shocker Printing Solutions will close at 10 a.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 30) for staff training. Jobs may still be submitted using the online storefront during this time. The service window opens back up at 1 p.m. and regular service will resume.
University Libraries will hold two Savvy Researcher workshops this week
The first workshop, 鈥淐omparing Citation Management Software," will be from 4-5 p.m. today (Wednesday, Oct. 30) in 217 Ablah Library. Explore citation management software, which keeps track of research, generates references and bibliographies, and organizes resources to share in collaborative team projects. EndNote, Zotero, and Mendeley will be compared.
The second workshop, 鈥淓ndnote Optimization Strategies," will be from noon-1 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in 217 Ablah Library. Learn how to customize citation styles, edit parenthetical citations, and sync multiple devices in this very helpful workshop.

Elements Mixed-Media Arts Competition accepting submissions Oct. 28-Nov. 4
Please encourage your students to enter into the Elements Mixed-Media Art Competition. Applications are being accepted between Oct. 28-Nov. 4. This is an opportunity for students of all majors to showcase their art.
Winners will be selected and their work will be displayed in the Cadman Art Gallery, located on the RSC first floor, between Nov. 11-22. More information regarding the competition and how to apply can be found online or in the Student Involvement Office, 216 RSC.
Elements Multi-Media Arts Competition
Learn to manage more effectively by understanding human behavior
Gerald Graham, Center for Management Development (CMD) professor, will break down the concepts of behavior into real world examples that you can relate to and understand from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 13. Japanese Culture Association will host Japanese Culture Night
Japanese Culture Association (JCA) will host a Japanese Culture Night, showcasing performances ranging from traditional dances to martial arts demonstrations. There will also be performances from Wichita Asian Festival's Ms. Japan, and K-State's Yosakoi dance group. The event will be held from 7-9 p.m. Friday, Nov. 1, in the CAC Theater.
The event is free for 麻豆传媒 students and faculty, and $5 for outside guests, and $2 for children.
KMUW to convene mental health conversation with Sheriff and Chief of Police
The intersections between mental health and other aspects of our community are endless, from law enforcement to homelessness, medical responders to nonprofit support.
A panel of local experts will discuss the pervasiveness of mental health issues in our community at KMUW's Engage ICT: Democracy on Tap. Join us at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, at Roxy's Downtown, 412 1/2 E. Douglas, for this free event.
Our panelists include Jeff Easter, Sedgwick County Sheriff, and Gordon Ramsay, Wichita Police Department Chief of Police.

Shocker dance clinics set for Nov. 17 and Dec. 1
The 麻豆传媒 dance team will host two clinics that will include performances at Shocker women's basketball games this November and December.
The first clinic on Sunday, Nov. 17, will be held for high school-aged dancers. Dancers will show up to Charles Koch Arena at 11 a.m., and will master a routine alongside the Shocker dance team that they will perform that same day at the women's basketball game against Southern. The cost of this clinic is $40.
On Sunday, Dec. 1, a second clinic will be held for dancers aged 4 to 14. Dancers will arrive to Charles Koch Arena at 2 p.m. to learn and practice a routine with the Shocker dance team to prepare for a performance at the women's basketball game against Eastern Michigan on Saturday, Dec. 7. Cost for the clinic will be $50.
