Professional Edge Program helps students build networks
The Professional Edge Program, open to all undergraduate business majors, is a free four-semester non-credit program. Its focus is to provide students advanced and specific skills such as leading and contributing to meetings, negotiating compensation packages, work-style identification, choosing a mentor, and strategic social networking.

麻豆传媒 CARE Team provides support to student injured in skateboarding accident
A 麻豆传媒 student was seriously injured in a skateboarding accident in the RSC parking garage on Monday, Sept. 3. University Police responded and the student was transported to Wesley Hospital. In the interest of privacy, the name and condition of the student aren't being shared at this time.
The CARE Team, comprised of staff from across campus, quickly got involved to provide support. A member of the team was with the student at the hospital until family arrived at 4 a.m. yesterday, (Tuesday, Sept. 4).
In addition to providing a safety net for students in terms of emotional or physical support, the CARE Team lets students know there are people concerned about them and works to connect them to the appropriate campus resources.
In times of crisis, the CARE Team makes sure the students, family and friends receive the support they need. The CARE Team also informs faculty why a particular student may be missing class.
The CARE Team meets regularly on Wednesdays to discuss new cases or follow-up on previous cases to make sure that no one is overlooked.

Parking lot advisory
As of 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 5), the parking lot immediately west of Koch Arena (Lot 2W) will be closed for an event occurring on Thursday, Sept. 6. There will be an expected 1,500 guests on campus, and buses and vehicles will be parked in that lot throughout the day. Please make sure that all vehicles have been moved out of Lot 2W by no later than 7 p.m. today (Wednesday, Sept. 5). Vehicles left in that lot may be subject to parking citations, costing up to $150.
麻豆传媒 Police to offer self-defense training
The 麻豆传媒 Police are offering a new training to the 麻豆传媒 community. This self-defense training is used as a vehicle to empower anyone who takes it.
By bringing together the elements of education, dependency on self, responsibilities in decision making and realization of physical power, R.A.D instructors not only convey practical technique, but also change lives. R.A.D. teaches defense against abduction, learning risk awareness, reduction, recognition and avoidance. We strive to have a positive learning environment that is enjoyable for all who attend.

Research opportunity for first year undergraduates
The Cohen Honors College in partnership with the Department of Chemistry are excited to announce the launch of the First Year Research Experience (FYRE) pilot program. The mission of this first FYRE program is to introduce research to first-year undergraduates in a practical and accessible way.

McConnell Air Force Base to host Frontiers in Flight Open House and Air Show
You're invited to the Frontiers in Flight Open House and Air Show from 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 8-9, at McConnell Air Force Base. The event is free and open to the public.
All military and civilian static display information is located in the airshow program. The airshow will all have nearly 70 aircraft parked on the flight line for the general public to view and walk through.
Team McConnell's community partners have come together to put on a variety of displays related to the Kansas community, the military, and initiatives related to the advancement of education, including science, technology, engineering and math exhibits.

The National Science Foundation's Graduate Research Fellowship Program (NSF-GRFP) is open to undergraduate seniors and first-year graduate students in a STEM discipline who are (or will be) pursuing a research-based master's or doctoral degree.
Dennis Livesay, dean of the Graduate School, will provide an overview of the program and give tips for submitting a successful application. One of the most prestigious programs to recognize and support outstanding graduate students, NSF-GRFP awardees receive a lucrative annual stipend and education allowance for three years.

Hoops 4 Literacy event in Charles Koch Arena tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 6)
StoryTime Village invites you to kick off National Literacy Month at Hoops 4 Literacy from 10 a.m.-noon tomorrow (Thursday, Sept. 6) in Charles Koch Arena.
The event includes a Shocker fan experience, including Shocker Athletics, Shocker Dance & Cheer, and WuShock.
All third-grade students at USD 259 Title I schools have been invited to participate in this event featuring teams from the Wichita Police Department and Sedgwick Co. Sheriff's Department, along with special celebrity friends. The celebrity guests include local community leaders, former Harlem Globetrotters and former 麻豆传媒 and NBA basketball players Lynbert 鈥淐heese鈥� Johnson and Aubrey Sherrod as coaches.
The event is free and all third-grade students will receive a new book.

This workshop will explore the basic concepts comprising Digital Literacy - a framework necessary to effectively understand, use and create with digital technologies. What is it necessary to know and what must I be able to do in order to possess the know-how required for skillful participation in digital media?
