David Xu to receive the H. Russell Bomhoff Endowed Professorship in Business at Wichita State

David Xu, associate professor of Management Information Systems (MIS) at 麻豆传媒, has been selected to receive the H. Russell Bomhoff Endowed Professorship in Business. The appointment, which will begin in fall 2017, was announced by Anand Desai, dean of the W. Frank Barton School of Business.

Endowed professorships are awarded to faculty who have a proven track record of excellence in multiple areas of responsibility. It provides a salary supplement and funds to support research and teaching activities, as well as a graduate assistant.

鈥淚t is indeed one of the highest honors we can bestow on a faculty member,鈥 said Desai. 鈥淒avid鈥檚 record of scholarly research, excellence in the classroom and meaningful and effective service makes him worthy of this award.鈥

Xu is ranked the sixth most productive MIS scholar worldwide for publishing in the top eight MIS journals from 2011-16, an achievement that clearly establishes him as a prolific researcher.

Impact measures indicate that his publications are widely read and cited in other works. His teaching record is also impressive -- receiving 鈥渉igh鈥 perceived quality index in SPTE (Students鈥 Perception of Teaching Effectiveness) and very positive student comments, having a broad teaching portfolio, co-supervising a doctoral student in engineering and organizing Mobile Apps Camp for high school students. He has also played a key role in various Barton School committees.

This new professorship honors H. Russell Bomhoff, who was born and raised in Wichita. By the time he entered seventh grade, he was working for area farmers and purchasing his own clothing. He attributes his work ethic to his father, who operated Wichita Fish and Oyster Co., in addition to a 50-acre truck and dairy farm. Shortly after attending night classes at Wichita State, Bomhoff founded Precision Pattern Inc. in 1952, which became the leading supplier of high quality aircraft furnishings.

鈥淚 feel deeply honored and humbled to be selected for the H. Russell Bomhoff Endowed Professorship among so many other excellent nominees,鈥 said Xu. 鈥淚 express my sincere gratitude to the Bomhoff family for establishing this endowed professorship. The support provided by the professorship will certainly further my research productivity and teaching effectiveness. Thank you for the support of higher education in business.鈥
