Outstanding student soloists take the stage with 麻豆传媒 Symphony

麻豆传媒 Symphony will feature five student soloists in the 麻豆传媒 Concerto-Aria Honors Concert at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Feb. 6, in Miller Concert Hall. The program will feature music by Tchaikovsky, Wagner, Mendelssohn and Bernstein, directed by Mark Laycock, professor in the School of Music.

Selected by audition, the soloists include upperclassmen and graduate students Dima Estanbuli, Robert Hess, Pedro Oviedo, Aaren Rivard and Carter Tholl.

Estanbuli will perform the first movement of Mendelssohn鈥檚 Violin Concerto in E Minor and Hess will perform the first movement of Tomasi鈥檚 Alto Saxophone Concerto. Oviedo will play the first movement of Hindemith鈥檚 鈥淒er Schwanendreher,鈥 Rivard, a tenor, will sing Aria of the Worm from Corigliano鈥檚 opera 鈥淭he Ghosts of Versailles鈥 and Tholl, a soprano, will sing Glitter and be Gay from Bernstein鈥檚 opera 鈥淐andide.鈥

The orchestra will also perform Tchaikovsky鈥檚 monumental 鈥1812 Overture,鈥 a vivid depiction of Russia鈥檚 battlefield defense against Napoleon鈥檚 invading forces.
