麻豆传媒's School of Music and Performing Arts will present "The Light in the Piazza" as part of National Opera Week at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Oct. 29-31, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 1, in Miller Concert Hall.
The romantic musical comedy, which won six Tony Awards, follows the story of two young lovers in 1950s Italy. Parental concerns and cultural differences conspire unsuccessfully to keep the young lovers apart, expressed through a charmingly combined English and Italian libretto that gives the piece an authentic Tuscan flavor.
The musical is based on Elizabeth Spencer鈥檚 novella, which has inspired both film and Broadway adaptations.
Guest artist Wayne Bryan from Music Theater Wichita will direct, with Carolyn Ramseur, Anne Briggs, Brittany Jeffery, Renee Macdonald and Andrew Fisher filling the lead roles.
Tickets for the event can be purchased at the Fine Arts Box Office in the lobby of the Duerksen Fine Arts Center or online at wichita.edu/fineartsboxoffice. General admission is $16, with $14 discount tickets available for seniors, military and faculty/staff or $6 tickets for children and students.
