Historic Vladimir Horowitz piano to be displayed at Wichita State

The prestigious piano company Steinway and Sons will display what is perhaps its most famous piano, a Model D Horowitz, Monday-Tuesday, Oct. 19-20, at 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Miller Concert Hall.

Vladimir Horowitz

Vladimir Horowitz

The concert grand piano belonged to Vladimir Horowitz (1903-1989), who is widely considered one of the greatest pianists of the 20th century. It was gifted to Horowitz and his wife, Wanda, in the 1940s as a replacement to a wedding present given to the couple in 1934. Horowitz kept the piano in his New York townhouse and used it in many of his recitals and recordings in the 1970s and 1980s.

Pianists, music lovers and the general public can schedule times to touch, play and photograph this historic piano at no cost.

The piano is also famously known for being his exclusive touring instrument during the last four years of his life and was played at performances in Moscow and Leningrad in 1986 during his triumphant return to the former Soviet Union.

The Model D Horowitz Piano is on a tour of North America, providing a rare opportunity for the public to interact with a piece of classical music history.

This event is sponsored by 麻豆传媒 School of Music, Schmitt Music Company, and Steinway & Sons of New York to celebrate its 162 years of crafting American-made pianos.
