The School of Performing Arts Theatre is hosting playwright Eric Coble in residence at 麻豆传媒 during the run of its production of 鈥淭he Dead Guy,鈥 a satirical look at reality television, at 7:30 p.m. Thursday-Saturday, Feb 19-21, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Wilner Auditorium on the 麻豆传媒 main campus.
During Coble鈥檚 visit to 麻豆传媒, the School of Performing Arts will host two special events:
A 鈥淢eet the Playwright鈥 reception will be held immediately following the opening-night performance of 鈥淭he Dead Guy鈥 on Thursday, Feb. 19. Coble will also lead a writing workshop from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21.
Both events are free and open to the public, but reservations must be made to attend the workshop. Call 316-978-3360 for information. Both events will take place in the Wilner Auditorium on the 麻豆传媒 main campus.
Coble鈥檚 body of work includes a production on Broadway, 鈥淭he Velocity of Autumn,鈥 which premiered at the Booth Theatre in 2014, starring Estelle Parsons and Stephen Spinella and directed by Molly Smith. Coble has also written 鈥淏right Ideas,鈥 鈥淢y Barking Dog,鈥 鈥淎 Girl鈥檚 Guide to Coffee,鈥 鈥淭he Baker Street Irregulars鈥 and 鈥淭he Giver,鈥 which have been staged off-Broadway in all 50 states and internationally.
Coble鈥檚 works have been produced in numerous prestigious venues, including at Manhattan Class Company, The Kennedy Center, Playwrights Horizons, Actors Theatre of Louisville Humana Festival, Denver Center Theatre Company, Arena Stage, New York and Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, Alliance Theatre, Cleveland Play House, Alabama Shakespeare Festival, South Coast Repertory, Asolo Repertory, Indiana Repertory, Coterie Theatre, Great Lakes Theater Festival, Stages Repertory, Geva Theatre and The Contemporary American Theatre Festival.
His accolades include the AATE Distinguished Play Award for Best Adaptation, an Emmy nomination, the Chorpenning Playwriting Award for Body of Work, the AT&T Onstage Award, National Theatre Conference Playwriting Award, an NEA Playwright in Residence Grant, a TCG Extended Collaboration Grant, the Cleveland Arts Prize, two Cuyahoga Arts and Culture Fellowships and four Ohio Arts Council Individual Excellence Grants.
