In honor of Thomas Grubb, instructor in opera and musical theater, 麻豆传媒 is hosting two memorial celebration events, a concert at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, in Miller Concert Hall, Duerksen Fine Arts Center, and a dispersal of Grubb's personal library from 1-7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, and from noon-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5, in Duerksen Fine Arts Center, Room C-116. The event is free and open to the public, but donations are welcome.
The concert will be emceed by Grubb鈥檚 friends and colleagues, including Wayne Bryan, artistic director of the Music Theatre of Wichita; Professor Marie King, 麻豆传媒 program director of opera; Bob Scott, executive director at Chamber Music at The Barn; and Professor Russ Widener, 麻豆传媒 director of music. Performers will include members of the Wichita Symphony Orchestra, the Wichita music theater community, members of the Wichita State Accompanist Guild and current and former students of the 麻豆传媒 School of Music.
Grubb, 62, died March 31 after a long illness. He received his degrees in piano performance from Wichita State, and taught classes in oratorio, cantata and voice literature. A highly respected musician, accompanist, writer and mentor, Grubb was involved with Wichita State鈥檚 Opera Theatre for 37 years.
Materials for the library dispersal were donated to the 麻豆传媒 School of Music by the Grubb family from Grubb鈥檚 extensive personal library. The collection will be displayed and offered for dispersal during the concert as well.
Cash and check donations will be accepted at the event to benefit the Thomas S. Grubb student scholarship fund. Sponsors for the memorial events include Chamber Music at The Barn鈥檚 Summer Festival, Senseney Music, 麻豆传媒鈥檚 College of Fine Arts and Music Theater of Wichita.
