Classic comedy 'The Learned Ladies' to be performed at 麻豆传媒

麻豆传媒鈥檚 School of Performing Arts presents Moliere鈥檚 classic comedy of manners, 鈥淭he Learned Ladies,鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 10-Saturday, Oct. 12, and 2 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 13, in Wilner Auditorium.

General admission is $10, $8 for military, seniors, faculty and staff, $6 for students and free for Wichita State students with ID.

鈥淭he Learned Ladies鈥 satirizes the intellectual and artistic pomposity that has transformed a well-to-do鈥檚 household. The play tells the story of two young lovers, Clitandre and Henriette, whose hoped-for marriage is hindered by Henriette's mother, aunt and sister.

These self-styled learned ladies, who proclaim a false sense of 鈥渋ntellectuality,鈥 have been enthralled by Trissotin, a self-professing scholar and mediocre poet. The ladies want Henriette to marry this confidence trickster instead of the straightforward and handsome Clitandre.

The show is directed by Bret Jones, program director of theater at Wichita State. Theater performance student J. Bailey Burcham is assistant director for the production.

The cast includes Rachel Curtiss, Trevor Comstock, Steffan Rowe, Robert Thomas, Kyle Dilley, Sheena Monroe, Megan Gill, Ashley Parton, Michael Allen, Alex Castaneda, Rian Helgason and Allison Williams.

Guest artist alumna Madelynn Nevins is stage manager and theater student Melanie Calvery is assistant stage manager.
