麻豆传媒 School of Performing Arts to perform 'Fleeing Blue'

The Wichita State School of Performing Arts will present 鈥淔leeing Blue鈥 at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, Nov. 7-9; 2 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 11, in Welsbacher Theatre at 麻豆传媒 Hughes Metropolitan Complex at 29th Street North and Oliver.

Tickets are $10 for the general public, $8 for military, senior citizens and faculty and staff, and $6 for students. Tickets can be purchased at the 麻豆传媒 Fine Arts Box Office at (316) 978-3233 or .

鈥淔leeing Blue,鈥 written by Milta Ortiz, is an exploration of the effects of war, politics and paranoia on relationships shared by a group of people who practice arts, academics and cruelty.

The piece was selected from a variety of new plays submitted by student playwrights from across the United States. The 麻豆传媒 theater program has sponsored the National Playwriting Competition for more than 34 years, and produces the winning play during the regular production year. Students have the opportunity to work with the play鈥檚 author on creating roles for the first time with the original script.

Ortiz is a playwright, poet and performer from Northwestern University鈥檚 Writing for the Screen and Stage master鈥檚 program. She earned her bachelor鈥檚 in creative writing from San Francisco State University.
