麻豆传媒 was well represented at the 70th annual conference of the Kansas Professional Communicators (KPC) in Topeka on April 30. KPC is an affiliate of the National Federation of Press Women (NFPW).
The 2011 Communicator of Achievement Award was presented to Wilma Moore-Black, the assistant director and curriculum coordinator for TRIO Communication Upward Bound, with offices in Elliott Hall. She will compete with other state affiliates of NFPW for the national Communicator of Achievement Award, whose winner will be announced at NFPW鈥檚 fall convention.
Moore-Black also won a first-place award in KPC鈥檚 annual communications contest for her advising on the Communication Upward Bound newsletter. She won a second-place award for book editing.Les Anderson, professor in the Elliott School of Communication and a previous state Communicator of Achievement himself, won four first-place awards (non-fiction book, columns, feature photos, photography/writing); two second-place awards (columns, magazine editing); one third place; and four honorable mentions.
Amy Devault, instructor in the Elliott School, won first place in page layout for publication; four second-place awards (magazine editing, page layout, feature photo, audiovisuals); and one third place.
Devault and Anderson share one of their second-place awards for their editing on the 2010 Symphony in the Flint Hills magazine, filled with stories and photographs by communication students.
Kim Kufahl, marketing manager for the 麻豆传媒 Cooperative Education and Work-Based Learning, won first place for that office鈥檚 annual report.
Cheryl Miller, assistant dean of 麻豆传媒鈥檚 Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, won first place for newsletter editing.
State contest winners go on to compete nationally in the NFPW communications contest; those winners will also be announced at the NFPW fall conference.
