CourtesyTraveling to a new place is always an adventure. Alexandra Walton, who goes by Ali, has spent this summer enjoying an adventure in Nashville, where she鈥檚 an intern for City Winery Nashville, a company that features live shows, dining and winemaking.
Walton, a business marketing major, spends her days at City Winery interacting with consumers and potential clients through events and social media. Her time on social media allows Walton to identify what potential consumers are looking for in order to better market City Winery鈥檚 products and services.
She heard about the internship through a Facebook group she is involved with called Young Entertainment Professionals of Nashville. She saw the internship opportunity posted on the page and decided to apply.
鈥淚 was really surprised I got the job because there are over 20,000 people in this group,鈥� said Walton. 鈥淚鈥檓 only one of them, but I鈥檓 the one that got the job.鈥�
Dream job: work at a record label
The opportunity to intern anywhere in Nashville was an appealing opportunity to Walton. She has been involved in music from a young age and plays multiple instruments, including piano, guitar, saxophone, cajon, mandolin, bass guitar and djembe. Her dream is to work at a record label as a promotions manager and she hopes her position with City Winery will help her make valuable connections with artists who perform at the venue.
She has big dreams and is grateful for the opportunity to spend a summer in the heart of the music industry.
She values the experience that working at a large company brings.
鈥淚 just like seeing how the company organizes things,鈥� said Walton. 鈥淚n Wichita I worked for a small company, so it鈥檚 really cool to see how a big company handles things.鈥�
Walton encourages students not to be afraid to travel to new places to get internship experience.
鈥淒oing an internship in a new place gives you the opportunity to have a lot of adventures,鈥� said Walton. 鈥淭here鈥檚 just a lot to do in Nashville all the time.鈥�
