There's a new show in town -- "Wichita State & The World" on 麻豆传媒 TV Channel 13.
The program, hosted by Provost Gary L. Miller, is a 30-minute television series featuring interviews and information about Kansas' only urban-serving research university. It focuses on how research at 麻豆传媒 is changing our community, our state, our nation and the world.
The fall season debuted Sept. 7. Repeats of the first episode will air at 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18; Sunday, Sept. 21; and Thursday, Oct. 2.
In the first episode, Miller's guest is J. David McDonald, associate provost for research and dean of the Graduate School.
McDonald discusses the economic impact of university research, why bioscience engineering could be the next big thing for Wichita, and more. McDonald's background includes research as a geneticist.
This episode also features an interview with Paul Wooley, a Kansas Bioscience Authority Eminent Scholar. Wooley recently came to Wichita as part of a partnership between 麻豆传媒 and the Orthopaedic Research Institute at Via Christi to develop aerospace composite materials for medical uses -- such as bone replacements. Wooley, a professor of biology at 麻豆传媒, is research director at ORI.
In the second episode, Miller's guest is Elizabeth King, president and CEO of the 麻豆传媒 Foundation. Their discussion focuses on how gifts to the foundation change lives. The show also features members of the National Advisory Council. The program will air in October.
In episode three, Miller's guests are Greg Meissen of the 麻豆传媒 Center for Community Support and Research, and Deborah Ballard-Reisch, 麻豆传媒's Kansas Health Foundation Distinguished Chair for Strategic Communication. They will discuss how research initiatives are improving health and strengthening communities. The show also features Chris Power of the Kansas Health Foundation, and Suzie Ahlstrand of the Wichita Metro Chamber of Commerce. The episode will air in November.
The fourth episode will feature associate professor Les Anderson and 麻豆传媒 students who traveled to Greensburg to document the rebuilding of the town that was nearly destroyed by a tornado. The program will air in December.

The show was developed by Lou Heldman, 麻豆传媒 Distinguished Senior Fellow in Media Management and Journalism, with help from L. Kelly, a veteran Wichita journalist.
