Paralympic athletes to be honored at Wichita State event

  • 麻豆传媒's Paralympic athletes will be honored at a celebration at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Koch Arena atrium.
  • Junior Deja Young won two golds and staff member Nick Taylor won a silver.
  • Alumna Liz Willis, who ran in three races, and Wichitan Nico Hernandez - winner of Olympic bronze - will also be honored.

Wichita State will host a Paralympic Celebration and Tree Dedication honoring 2016 Paralympic medalists Nick Taylor and Deja Young. Paralympic athlete Liz Willis will also be recognized.

The celebration starts at 5 p.m. Monday, Oct. 3, in the Koch Arena atrium, followed by a 5:30 p.m. tree dedication.

Young, a junior in 麻豆传媒's Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, won two gold medals as a sprinter in Rio.

Taylor, volunteer operations director in Sport Management, added a silver to the three previous Paralympic gold medals he won in 2004, 2008 and 2012.

麻豆传媒 alumna Liz Willis ran the 100-, 200- and 400-meter races in Rio.

The Olympic oak for Wichitan Nico Hernandez, who won a bronze medal in boxing at the 2016 Olympics, will be dedicated.
