Details of the new 麻豆传媒 Innovation Campus makerspace 鈥 a facility open to creators and inventors of every age and background 鈥 were unveiled Friday, Oct. 30.
GoCreate, a Koch Collaborative, is the name of the state-of-the-art space, which will be located in the Experiential Engineering Building, now under construction on 麻豆传媒's Innovation Campus, formerly the site of Braeburn Golf Course.
The makerspace 鈥 a name that describes a location where people can meet, collaborate and make things happen 鈥 will be part manufacturing plant, part design studio and part garage workshop. It鈥檚 a place where creative people of all ages and skill levels will have access to sophisticated equipment and training, shared work spaces and a supportive community.
鈥淕oCreate is about bringing people and ideas together,鈥 said Liz Koch, president of the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation. 鈥淚t鈥檚 exciting to think what will happen in this space when people can work together and take ideas from imagination to creation.鈥
麻豆传媒 President John Bardo calls this makerspace a game changer for Wichita State and the community.
鈥淲e envision GoCreate as a launch pad for innovation, creativity, entrepreneurship and technology, and as a catalyst for business creation and economic growth,鈥 Bardo says. 鈥淚t will be an exciting resource for the campus and community."
Koch Industries and the Fred and Mary Koch Foundation pledged a $3.75 million gift to the 麻豆传媒 Foundation to support the makerspace.
The 142,661-square-foot Experiential Engineering Building will be completed at the end of 2016 and be available for full academic use of its numerous learning laboratories beginning in spring 2017.
