Two Wichita high school students are winners of the 2015-16 Professor Fran Jabara Scholarship in Entrepreneurship at 麻豆传媒. Jocelyn Galicia, a senior at Wichita High School East, and Clayton Hicks, a senior at Maize High School, are the recipients.
The scholarship is one of the most prestigious at 麻豆传媒 and one of the largest entrepreneurship scholarships nationally. It awards each recipient $20,000 over four years. To qualify, a student must have a minimum ACT score of 24, a GPA of 3.5 or better and be a declared entrepreneurship major.
The scholarship is named for Fran Jabara, a prominent Wichita entrepreneur who founded the 麻豆传媒 Center for Entrepreneurship and is a former dean of the university鈥檚 W. Frank Barton School of Business.
Jocelyn Galicia
Galicia is the daughter of Teofilo and Maria Galicia. While at Wichita State, she will study business administration with a major in entrepreneurship and international business.
She is a member of the Modern Music Honor Society, DECA and orchestra, as well as Musical Crew and the Spirit Cabinet.
During her junior year, Galicia was a top 10 finalist in the National American Miss Kansas, YCOA Kansas Karate Tournament Champion and finished in the top three of the National Finish Line Challenge. This year she placed first in the DECA Central Region Leadership Conference and was named a Kansas Honor Scholar.
Clayton Hicks
Hicks is the son Gerald and Gayla Hicks. He plans to major in entrepreneurship while attending 麻豆传媒.
He is a member of the 麻豆传媒 Leadership Academy, National Honor Society and Fellowship for Christian Athletes. Hicks is a three-year letterman in both football and baseball. He was voted 鈥淢ost Unselfish Player鈥 by his football coaches this past season.
Hicks currently works as a cashier and delivery man at Perfect Peace Christian & Education stores.
