Wichita State police officers Demario Smith and Dan Styles acted quickly to get a young child out of a locked car at QuikTrip in the 1400 block of North Oliver on a dangerously hot day Tuesday, July 22.
The Wichita Police Department initially responded to a 911 call that a young child was left in a locked car. Later it was learned that a woman accidentally locked her toddler inside the vehicle. The temperature that day climbed to 100 degrees.
WPD does not carry equipment to open car doors. Their only recourse would have been to break a car window. Instead, they called the nearby 麻豆传媒 Police for help.
The child, who is around 16 months old, was still in a car seat. Wichita State UPD officers Smith and Styles arrived and used 麻豆传媒 equipment to open the door and get the child out unharmed.
It took less than eight minutes from the time University Police were called until the 麻豆传媒 officers arrived and freed the child.
