Anthony Vizzini has been named vice president for academic affairs at 麻豆传媒, effective July 1, according to President John Bardo.
Vizzini assumes the position vacated in 2011 by Gary L. Miller, who left to become chancellor of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington. Keith Pickus has served as interim provost since Miller鈥檚 departure.
鈥淚 am pleased Dr. Vizzini has accepted the offer to become 麻豆传媒鈥檚 next vice president for academic affairs,鈥 said Bardo. 鈥淗is academic background will prove invaluable for advancing the university鈥檚 academic programs, and he brings to campus a wealth of experience in the development of entrepreneurship and business innovation in private and public partnerships. I am excited to have his breadth of experience in both business and academics.鈥
Vizzini earned his undergraduate, master鈥檚 and doctoral degrees from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His research involved the manufacture, testing and analysis of composite structures.
He is a Fellow of the American Society for Composites and served as president of the Society for the Advancement of Material and Process Engineering.
Vizzini served as a catalyst in the economic development of the aerospace corridor in Mississippi.
鈥淚 am eager to be joining so many exciting individuals and to be part of the team of students, staff and faculty who will make great things happen for 麻豆传媒 and the state of Kansas,鈥 said Vizzini. 鈥淚 have had a great welcome thus far.鈥
Since 2009, Vizzini has served as dean and professor of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at Western Michigan University.
Previously, he was department head, professor and inaugural holder of the Bill and Carolyn Cobb Chair for the aerospace engineering department at Mississippi State University.
Vizzini started his professional career as assistant professor at the University of Maryland, where he eventually became founding director of the Composites Research Laboratory, graduate director of aerospace engineering and associate professor.
