ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ hosts series of events dedicated to preventing domestic and dating violence

ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ is presenting Notes of Purple, a free concert and campus resource fair focused on preventing domestic/dating violence and honoring survivors. The event is hosted by the student Prevention Ambassadors and the Preventing Sexual Violence Subcommittee of the Prevention Services Advisory Board.

The resource fair begins at 4:30 p.m. Oct. 7 outside Wichita State’s CAC Theater, and the concert begins at 5 p.m. All are welcome to attend this free event featuring local artists BORVH and Hunter Gromala. The Purple Mile is a community resource fair and memorial and awareness walk from 9-11 a.m. Oct. 8, starting on the north side of the Rhatigan Student Center at ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½. This event will feature speakers and lived experience from individuals in our community.

Nationally, one in three women and one in four men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner. In Kansas, one domestic violence incident occurs every 22 minutes. While these numbers are striking, we hold the power to change them. The mission of the Preventing Sexual Violence subcommittee is to effectively and inclusively reduce the occurrence of domestic and dating violence, sexual assault and stalking among the ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ community by bringing about structural and cultural change on campus.

ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ is Kansas' only urban public research university, enrolling almost 22,000 students between its main campus and ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Tech, including students from every state in the U.S. and more than 100 countries. Wichita State and ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ Tech are recognized for being student centered and innovation driven.

Located in the largest city in the state with one of the highest concentrations in the United States of jobs involving science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ provides uniquely distinctive and innovative pathways of applied learning, applied research and career opportunities for all of our students.

The Innovation Campus, which is a physical extension of the ΒιΆΉ΄«Γ½ main campus, is one of the nation’s largest and fastest-growing research/innovation parks, encompassing over 120 acres and is home to a number of global companies and organizations.
